Student Worker’s Perspective on YWCA Mission
“The YWCA’s mission is one that has values that are extremely important in today’s society. The part that sticks out the most to me is the empowerment of women and the promotion of peace. To empower women and promote peace is to let them know that they are loved, that they are deserving, that they are worthy. These are ideas that can easily be forgotten in the midst of day-to-day life, so being a part of a non-profit that is centered around reminding and helping them in any way possible is extremely important to me.
We help assist women by providing transitional housing to help women get back on their feet, as well as hygiene bags, gas cards, and bus passes. There’s a lot that we do to help the women (and men) in our community, and if we can’t directly help someone, we can direct them to sources that can. I think it’s a beautiful thing to be able to come to work and improve the lives of others and I’m so grateful to be a part of the mission here at the YWCA.”
